Has it ever happened to you, that you took some great photos but a month or two later you just couldn't remember, where those photos were taken? Perhaps you even wanted to visit that place again, but couldn’t find it anymore.

Now you can geotag your photos and solve this problem.

What is geotagging?

Geotagging is the process of adding geographical information to your photos. These data usually consist of latitude and longitude coordinates and sometimes also include altitude.

Geotag information is typically embedded in the metadata. These data are not visible in the picture itself. They are read and written by most digital cameras and special programs.

Unfortunately not many cameras support geotagging. If you want to add geographic information to your photos you can do this in many different ways. I have decided to present you the easiest two ways.

Geotagging with “geoimgr”

As I was trying to find the easiest way to geotag my photos, I ran across simple web-tool that offers an easy way to tag images with geo coordinates. All you need to do is upload an image, find the place where the photo was taken and download the geotagged image. It's that simple. The downside of this tool is, that you still have to find the place, where the picture was taken, before you can add this information.

So what can you do if you don't want to go through all this trouble?

There is that little gadget called Sony GPS-CS3KA which records GPS position data and allows you to track the exact location and time of where your pictures were taken.

This geotagger saves location data to a file that can be referenced later when the GPS-CS3KA tracker is linked to a Windows computer via USB port.

Included Picture Motion Browser software links the time stamp of the image with the time stamp of the GPS's recording and then copies that data to the image's metadata.

The GPS-CS3KA GPS Image Tracker also features two memory card slots for geotagging on the fly. After a shoot you simply remove the card from your camera and insert it into this device. It will then scan the image files saved on the memory card and match time and location without the use of a PC.
