Give Photos a Center of Interest

Every picture should have a single, strong center of interest. Don’t include everything of interest in a photo. Choose one main subject. Then find secondary objects that are giving the photo depth and richness but do not take attention away from the main subject. Eliminate everything from your photo that doesn’t belong there.

The rule of thirds

Position of your subject within a picture is one of the most important decisions you make. Beginner photographers often make a mistake and position the subject right in the middle of the picture. More often than not these pictures are dull and uninteresting.

This is where the rule of thirds comes into play.
