How to make a panoramic photo?
If you are interested in how to make panoramic photos, you have come to the right place.
A panorama is perfect for getting an entire landscape in one picture. By capturing a series of images around a single point of rotation, and stitching them together, you can make beautiful panoramic pictures.
In this article, I will explain how to make panoramic photos using just your digital camera, a tripod, and free image editing software to stitch the images together.
Step 1: Place the camera on a tripod. You need to take a series of pictures in a straight line to help the image editing software stitch the pictures. Lock the the camera position at a certain height, but allow yourself the ability to move the camera horizontally.
Step 2: Place the level on top of your camera to make sure the camera is level horizontally. This helps your pictures not to slant. You can get a small level that at a hardware store.
Step 3: Lock the focus and exposure on the area you want to be the central of the photo. This will help keep the same brightness and sharpness across all photos that will be combined into panorama.
Step 4: Take your first picture of the far left edge of the scene you are capturing. Begin shooting. Rotate your camera to the right so that the next frame overlaps the previous frame by 25%, and take your next picture. Keep doing so until you reach the far right side of the scene.
Step 5: Transfer images to you computer.
Step 6: Download and install Autostitch. At the time of writing this article you could get it here.
Step 7: Open Autostitch and click “Edit” menu. Select “Options”. You will see many options, but you can ignore most of them. You only need to »Set Scale« to 100% and change JPEG Quality to 90 or more.
Step 8: Click on "File" and then on "Open". Find the folder where you stored the photos you took to make the panorama. Select the images (you can do that by pressing Ctrl+A) and click »Open«. The stitching process will start automatically. When the process of stitching is finished, the file will open automatically.
The panorama photo gets stored to the folder where the individual photos are located.
If you notice any black border around the image, just use any image editing software you like to crop the image.
